Thiruvananthapuram: The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has rolled back its decision to conduct separate spot admissions for vacant BTech seats in nine govt and three aided engineering colleges following complaints from students.Until last year, centralised spot admission was conducted at Govt Engineering College, Thrissur, enabling candidates to secure admission to vacancies in any of the 12 colleges through a single centre. This year, DTE initially decided to conduct spot admissions separately at each college.Under the revised procedure, candidates can report at any one of the 12 participating colleges before noon on Aug 13. They will be considered, according to rank, for vacant seats across all the participating colleges through centralised software. The revision followed the intervention of higher education minister Roji M John after students raised concerns over the procedure, according to a release issued by the minister’s office.The new arrangement will allow candidates to participate in the centralised process without travelling to Govt Engineering College, Thrissur. The software team that handled centralised spot admissions at the college in previous years will coordinate the process.Candidates participating in the spot admission must produce a transfer certificate or no-objection certificate. Those who have already secured admission to govt engineering colleges are exempt from this requirement.
