Prayagraj: Although Prayagraj doesn’t faces any shortage of drinking water, there have been frequent complaints regarding the supply of contaminated water. The administration is now taking steps to resolve the issue.General Manager (Prayagraj Jalkal Department), Sanjeev Kumar said that the process of replacing dilapidated pipes will soon be undertaken to eliminate the issue of contaminated water supply. Reports prepared by engineers from all zones will be submitted to the Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner, and the replacement process will commence based on their directives. This project will entail an expenditure of over Rs 15 crore. It is worth noting that approximately 30 to 40 kilometers of the city’s drinking water pipeline network has become old and dilapidated.Prayagraj currently comprises 100 wards, with more than 60 of them having old drinking water supply lines. The department is planning to replace the worn-out pipes in neighborhoods where the infrastructure was laid 20 to 30 years ago, such areas are particularly prevalent in the old city areas. Leakages in these pipes are the primary cause of the contaminated water supply issue. The city currently consumes 404 MLD (million liters per day) of water, supplied through 664 tube wells and a pipeline network spanning 1,600 kilometers.
