Bengaluru: What began as a celebration to mark a gym’s first anniversary ended in tragedy, with a 25-year-old trainer allegedly assaulted to death following a quarrel among a group of trainers at a flat in Kempapura. Police have arrested three accused in connection with the death.The deceased, M Nandan, was a resident of Jakkur Layout. The accused named in a complaint filed by Nandan’s mother, Manjula, are Vishwanath, 22, Sharath, 27, Nishanth, 24 and Anush.Nandan, who was an only child, is survived by his mother and father, Mahendra, who works as a mason. Nandan was employed as a gym trainer at Masiv Fitness in Sahakaranagar for the last one year.According to the complaint, after the gym celebrations ended, Nandan, along with three accused, went to the residence of Anush, a trainee under Vishwanath. Anush lives in a flat (Prestige Misty Waters Apartments) in Kempapura, near Hebbal.Manjula alleged that Vishwanath, Sharath, Nishanth and Anush were involved in a quarrel and assault that led to her son’s death. Vishwanath and Sharath were also injured during the altercation.A murder case under Section 103 of the BNS was registered at Amruthahally police station, and an investigation is going on under the supervision of assistant commissioner of police (Sampigehalli sub-division) Chandan Kumar.Deputy commissioner of police (north-east) GK Mithun Kumar said, “Vishwanth was Anush’s trainer. At Anush’s house, deceased Nandan was assaulted, resulting in his death. The murder appears to be over personal reasons. Three accused people have been arrested. They are being interrogated in detail to ascertain the exact reason for the assault.”Cops suspect accused consumed dugs & alcoholA senior police officer said awards were presented to trainers and customers during the gym’s anniversary celebrations, following which a party was held at the gym.After Anush returned home, the other trainers asked him to let them stay at his house until the following morning. Though Anush initially refused, they allegedly persuaded him to allow them to stay.Anush then went to sleep in his room, while Nandan and the three arrested accused remained in the hall and continued partying. Between 3.30am and 4am on Oct 4, a quarrel broke out among them, which soon turned violent. The group allegedly assaulted each other, during which the bathroom mirror and handwash basin were damaged, the officer said.Nandan sustained multiple injuries to his body. Doctors who conducted the postmortem examination informed police that he had sustained several injuries and that his death appeared to have been caused by strangulation.Police suspect that the three arrested accused may have consumed drugs during the party. Their samples have been collected for medical examination, and police are awaiting the reports.Rushed to hospital in ambulanceAnush, who was sleeping in the room, told police that he woke up around 10.30am to find Nandan, with injuries on his body, lying unconscious. He immediately made a video call to a doctor and on his suggestion, he called an ambulance and rushed Nandan to a nearby hospital. The doctors declared him brought dead around 11.30 am. The assaulters were in his house without bothering to check on Nandan till then, an officer said.“The sequence of the crime and the role of Anush are being verified. The arrested persons are not revealing the exact reason for the fight. We have taken them into police custody,” the officer added.
