The famous cherry blossoms in Washington DC have reached peak bloom, putting on their annual display around the Tidal Basin. ‘Recent warm weather pushed the blossoms into overdrive,’ the National Park Service said on 26 March, adding that ‘glorious clouds of white and pink cherry blossoms now ring the Tidal Basin, creating a splendid spring spectacle.’ Officials predicted peak bloom would occur between 29 March and 1 April, but a period of warmer than usual weather sped up the process. This is the seventh consecutive year in a row where the blossoms have bloomed before 1 April, according to the National Park Service.
