Gurgaon: Two days after an SHO was suspended following raids on 18 spa centres at Sapphire mall in Sector 90, police commissioner Sibash Kabiraj on Thursday directed all DCPs and ACPs to conduct random and surprise inspections of spa and massage centres across their jurisdictions.The commissioner also directed SHOs to ensure regular checking of such establishments and made supervisory officers accountable for lapses in enforcement, officials said. “SHOs have been asked to ensure no illegal activity is being carried out under their cover,” an official said. The commissioner also warned that any negligence or lapse in complying with the directions could lead to legal and departmental action against the police personnel concerned as well as the supervisory officer responsible for the jurisdiction.On Tuesday, Kherki Daula SHO inspector Ravinder was suspended after the raids but police have not yet specified the exact reason for the suspension. In Thursday’s written orders to DCPs, ACPs and SHOs, Kabiraj directed the supervisory officers to conduct random inspections to assess whether regular checking was being carried out by personnel at the police station level and whether the instructions were being implemented effectively. “The directions state that immediate legal action should be taken whenever any illegal activity is detected during checking or inspection of a spa or massage centre,” the official added.The Sapphire mall raid was conducted by the police along with the Haryana State Commission for Women chairperson and a duty magistrate. During the raids on Friday, which continued from around 10pm to 3am, police found suspected illegal activities at eight establishments. Around 30 women and 20 men were questioned and electronic and documentary evidence was seized. The investigation also led police to conduct more raids and question people linked to establishments suspected of violating the law.
