Mysuru: Stressing on the damage caused by the increasing number of accidents in the city, deputy commissioner G Lakshmikanth Reddy on Tuesday directed district officers to take immediate scientific action to prevent road accidents.Chairing the road safety committee meeting at the DC office, Reddy instructed officers to identify accident-prone black spots across the district and take corrective action without delay. He specifically ordered the removal of unscientific speed bumps and asked the departments to pinpoint stretches where accidents occur frequently. Estimates for repair and safety works must be submitted within a fortnight, while approved works should be completed within a month.Reddy also called for engineering improvements on dangerous roads, especially those with sharp curves. He asked officials to reduce road curvature wherever possible, install proper signboards at turns, and provide scientific speed breakers only where necessary. At the same time, he cautioned against placing humps on highways, noting that such measures can create additional risks instead of improving safety.He also told officials that every accident-prone zone should be studied carefully, and scientific solutions must be identified, estimated, approved, and implemented in a time-bound manner. The administration, he said, must take all possible steps to make roads safer for commuters.Emphasising the value of human life, Reddy reminded motorists of their responsibility to follow traffic rules. Two-wheeler riders must wear helmets, while four-wheeler drivers should use seat belts at all times, he stressed.DCP (traffic) KS Sundar Raj was also present.
