Mangaluru: Deputy commissioner Darshan HV has directed community-based organisations to cooperate in issuing identity cards to sexual minorities in the district. He also directed the concerned departments to take necessary steps to allot housing sites to them. He was speaking while chairing the selection and coordination committee meeting of various schemes of the Women’s Development Corporation, along with the district coordination committee meeting on the prevention of sexual harassment of women at workplace act, held at the DC’s office on Tuesday.He directed officials to take steps to provide self-employment incentives for HIV-infected women under the Dhanashree scheme and under the Chetana scheme. He also instructed that issues related to Aadhaar cards or other documentations faced by beneficiaries while applying for these schemes should be resolved promptly.A list of 15 landless transgenders has been submitted to the MCC. A total of 45 transgenders registered under the Gruhalakshmi scheme are receiving Rs 2,000 per month. As per a recent survey, 96 transgenders are registered in DK district. Under the transgender rehabilitation scheme, individuals aged between 18 and 60 are eligible for an incentive of Rs 30,000 to take up self-employment. A total of 16 applications have been received under the scheme, of which, one was rejected due to lack of documents, informed Chandrika, development officer of the women and child development department.The DC also directed that IEC (Information, Education and Communication) activities be conducted at the district level to create awareness about Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act. He said that workplaces with 10 or more employees must constitute internal complaints committees. He stressed the need for effective implementation of POSH Act and directed officials to ensure accurate data verification on the She-Box portal.District Legal Services Authority member secretary and senior civil judge Zaibunnisa, additional DC Raju K, ACP Geetha Kulkarni, district health officer Dr Thimmaiah, deputy director of Women and Child Development Department Usman A, and others were present.
