Hazaribag: A day after a forest guard, deployed in Pachmu forest under Mayurhand block of Chatra district, was swept away by strong currents in a rain-fed stream while on duty, his body was recovered from near Banha check dam on Wednesday morning, officials said.The deceased was identified as Raj Kumar Bhuiyan, 45, a resident of Karkara village under Husia panchayat in Mayurhand block.Forest staff Pintu Kumar Yadav said, “Raj had left home between 2 pm and 3 pm on Tuesday to inspect the forest and look after cattle. While crossing a rain-fed stream, the water level suddenly rose and the current swept him away.”“When he did not return home by late evening, his family members and villager started a search for him. They found his slippers, umbrella, and axe on the bank of the stream. Around 8 am on Wednesday, Raj’s body was found near Banha check dam. Police sent the body to the Chatra sadar hospital for post-mortem examination,” he added.Mayurhand circle officer Manish Kumar said, “The deceased’s dependants would be provided with compensation of Rs 4 lakh under disaster management provisions after administrative process was completed.”
