KALYAN: A sudden enforcement drive by the Damini squad on Valentine’s Day caused a stir among couples and alleged miscreants across Kalyan and Dombivli. The squad, constituted under the Kalyan DCP Zone earlier this year, launched an unexpected crackdown at multiple public locations, including gardens, malls, secluded spots, and areas around schools and colleges.Police said the team—comprising entirely women police personnel—patrolled the city on scooters, maintaining a close vigil on public spaces. Action was taken against individuals allegedly involved in eve-teasing, smoking in public places, creating disturbances, consuming intoxicants near educational institutions, and engaging in inappropriate or obscene behaviour.Authorities said the operation was designed as both a preventive and corrective measure to ensure public decorum and strengthen safety, particularly for women and young students.DCP Atul Zende stated that the Damini squad was formed following directives from the Thane Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbare.
