Kanpur: The case of a 25-year-old Dalit woman found dead under suspicious circumstances in an orchard in Ghatampur, Kanpur, has taken a serious turn after the postmortem confirmed that she was seven months pregnant. Doctors have preserved DNA samples of the fetus and other forensic evidence to investigate the possibility of sexual assault. However, the exact cause of death could not be ascertained during the postmortem examination.Based on a complaint lodged by the woman’s father, the Ghatampur police have registered an FIR under serious charges, including murder, against two men known to her. Teams have been deployed to trace both accused.The woman’s body was found in an orchard on the outskirts of a village in Ghatampur on Thursday. Her family members identified the body and alleged that the two men killed her and dumped the body in the orchard.A resident of Patara in Ghatampur, the complainant said his elder daughter had left home with her lover earlier this year without informing the family. He said the couple later had a dispute, after which the woman returned home about a month ago. She subsequently left home again with another man.In his complaint, her father said she had relationships with Gola Pandey, a resident of the village, and Pranjal, a resident of the city. He alleged that the two men killed her and dumped her body in the orchard.Ghatampur SHO Manoj Singh Bhadauria said the family has not yet been able to provide complete details about her first and second partners. Police recovered a mobile phone near the woman’s body and took it into possession. Its call detail records are being examined as part of the investigation.
