Agartala: Two alleged familial killings in separate locations of Tripura in the last 24 hours left the state reeling and raised concern over the destructive effects of alcohol abuse and domestic violence.In Dhalai district, 34-year-old Lalchuanawma Bru allegedly killed two of his minor children on Saturday at the Bru Settlement in Ultachhara ADC Village under Gandacherra subdivision. Police said he was under the influence of alcohol and became violent. His wife, Rontarung Reang, fled with one child. The other two children who remained — 13-year-old Rishika Khakhomati Reang and 4-year-old Prishammaiha Molsai Reang — were allegedly beaten to death with a wooden stick. Residents found the bodies, detained the accused and informed Gandacherra Police. Police arrested him and sent the bodies to Gandacherra Sub-Divisional Hospital for post-mortem examinations. The mother filed a complaint, a case was registered and the accused remains in custody as the investigation continues.In Sepahijala district, police said Ayakhi Ray Tripura was allegedly beaten to death by his son, Samir, in North Rangamura under Sonamura subdivision. Investigators said Samir has a history of narcotic substance abuse and repeated violent clashes with his father. During a Saturday argument, he allegedly attacked his father with a wooden stick, causing fatal injuries. Later, Samir was arrested.Social commentators called for stronger de-addiction services, accessible mental health care, community intervention and family counselling for vulnerable groups.
