Patna: Economic Offences Unit (EOU) on Friday conducted simultaneous raids at four locations linked to district programme officer Ajeet Amar of Saharsa in a disproportionate assets case. Searches were carried out at his ancestral home in Siwan, office and rented accommodation in Saharsa, and official residence in Saran.EOU said preliminary verification found assets worth over Rs 62 lakh, about 72% higher than his known sources of income. During the raids, officials recovered documents relating to several land purchases, bank accounts, an SUV, a premium bike worth about Rs 15 lakh, jewellery worth around Rs 40 lakh and records linked to a luxury house.According to EOU, Ajeet joined Bihar govt service in Feb 2022 and was later deputed as programme planning officer (planning and accounts) in Chhapra. Investigators said he received about Rs 38 lakh in salary during his 4.5 years of service.EOU DIG Manavjit Singh Dhillon said a luxury house built on ancestral land in Raini village of Siwan was found during the searches. “Thirty bills relating to its construction were recovered. The FIR estimates the cost at Rs 40 lakh, but the actual cost is likely to be much higher,” he said.Officials also recovered documents relating to the purchase of over six bighas of land in Saran in the name of Ajeet’s wife, Pooja Kumari, besides four bank accounts held by the couple. EOU said it would investigate suspected under-reporting of land purchase values and examine investment records.The agency also informed the education department about the case. It said the value of disproportionate assets could rise further as the investigation progresses.
