Noida: Four Noida residents were cheated out of around Rs 28 lakh in separate cases, with gangs using investment schemes and malicious links to trap them. Police said the accused first offered profits to win the victims’ trust before persuading them to transfer larger sums.In the first case, a resident of Sector 83 reported losing over Rs 6 lakh to scamsters, while a Sector 113 resident allegedly lost over Rs 5 lakh to a similar fraud.The third victim, a resident of Sector 117, reported a loss of nearly Rs 9 lakh. The complaint, registered through NCRP, states that the online financial fraud also took place on April 8, 2025. In the fourth case, a man reported losing around Rs 7.8 lakh in an online financial fraud on July 1, 2025.According to police, the victims were targeted through different methods. While some were allegedly promised high returns on investments, others were tricked into downloading links or interacting with fraudulent digital platforms. Police said the accused typically gain the victim’s confidence before persuading them to transfer money or share access to financial accounts.FIRs have been registered against unidentified persons in all four cases. Investigators are now collecting details of the bank accounts used to receive the money, mobile numbers involved in the transactions and other digital evidence. Police said the information would be analysed to identify the suspects and establish the flow of the defrauded funds.Cybercrime police advised residents not to open links received from unknown numbers or share OTPs, ATM PINs, CVV, passwords or banking details with anyone. People were also cautioned against downloading investment apps or accessing websites recommended by unknown persons.Victims of cyberfraud are advised to immediately call the helpline number 1930 and report the incident on the national cybercrime reporting platform. Early reporting can help authorities initiate measures to trace or freeze the transferred funds, police said.
