Shillong: The West Garo Hills district administration has set up a control room at headquarters Tura to enable the public to communicate about their concerns and also to monitor the law and order, even as curfew was extended on Friday to contain the situation.The control room has been established at the office premises of the District Disaster Management Authority in Tura. “Members of the public having any enquiries or requiring assistance may contact the control room at the dedicated numbers 6009926806/1077,” an official notification said.Meanwhile, with incidents of violence and disturbance reported in various parts of the district, posing serious threat to human life, public safety and property, curfew was extended from 6am of March 14 to 6am of March 15. There will be relaxation from 9am to 3pm on March 14 to facilitate public movement and regular activities, district magistrate Vibhor Agarwal said in his order on Friday.Ordering that no person shall move outside their residence within the limits of West Garo Hills District during the curfew period, the district magistrate said, “Upon careful assessment of the situation and reports received from law enforcement agencies, I am satisfied that continuation of stringent preventive measures is necessary to restore normalcy and prevent further escalation of violence.”
