Officials inspect a farm in Vani

Chandrapur: Survey and spot panchnamas of kharif crop losses have begun in Chandrapur taluka after it was included in the state’s list of drought-affected talukas. Around 17,000 hectares have been brought under kharif cultivation in the taluka, and joint teams will inspect the affected fields to assess crop damage.The exercise began with an inspection of damaged paddy crop in the field of farmer Santosh Atram at Valni village. Joint teams comprising revenue, gram panchayat and agriculture department officials will conduct field-level surveys and record crop loss in the presence of farmers. The exercise is aimed at ensuring objective assessment, ensuring eligible farmers are not left out and providing accurate data to the government for announcing further relief measures.Eleven team heads, comprising circle officers and agriculture officials, have been appointed to supervise the survey being carried out across the taluka. The teams will record the condition of crops and the extent of damage during their field visits.Sub-divisional officer Vishalkumar Meshram, tehsildar Vijay Pawar, naib tehsildar Omkar Thakre, taluka agriculture officer Aniket Mane and other revenue and agriculture officials were present during the inspection at Valni.After completion of the panchnamas, village-wise lists of assessed crop losses will be displayed at the respective chavdis (village administration office). This will enable farmers to verify whether their crop damage has been recorded.
