Kanpur: A routine Sunday night on Ganga Barrage Road turned into a scene of panic after a crocodile emerged from the roadside bushes near Baniyapurwa village in the Bithoor police station area, startling passersby and sending nearby villagers into a frenzy.Eyewitnesses said people were passing through Ganga Barrage Road on Sunday when the crocodile was spotted near bushes along the roadside. After seeing it, passersby stopped their vehicles and alerted people nearby.A crowd gathered at the spot within a short time. Some people recorded videos of the crocodile on their mobile phones, and the clips later went viral on social media.After learning that the crocodile had reached the roadside, some people informed the police through Dial-112. Police from Bithoor police station reached the spot, but the crocodile had moved into the roadside bushes before they arrived. Police advised people in the area to remain alert and avoid going towards the bushes.Local villagers said crocodiles often emerge from the Ganga and reach nearby areas and villages after the river’s water level rises. The sighting near Baniyapurwa and Ganga Barrage Road created an atmosphere of fear among villagers. Villagers demanded that the concerned department increase monitoring in the area, safely capture the crocodile and release it into the river.
