Shivamogga: In a movie-style operation, Bhadravathi New Town police caught a rowdy-sheeter who attempted to evade arrest by submerging himself in a stream on Wednesday.The accused, Dilip alias Kariya, is booked in 16 criminal cases, including theft and attempted murder, police said. After the court issued warrants against him three times in connection with a case, personnel from the New Town police station launched an operation to locate and arrest him.As Dilip was hiding near a stream in Bhandarahalli, the police team rushed to the spot. While initial searches yielded no sign of the suspect, SI Ramesh and staff member Prasanna noticed weeds moving in the water while there were air bubbles rising from under the water.Acting swiftly, the officers waded into the stream and pulled Dilip out from under the water. He was handcuffed right in the stream and brought to the riverbank to ensure that he did not give them the slip, police said. The clever and prompt action by the New Town police has drawn appreciation.
