Prayagraj: A criminal Dharmendra (35) was injured and arrested after an encounter in Fatehpur late on Tuesday night. Cops recovered a country-made pistol of .315 bore, one used and one unused cartridges, Rs 3,400 cash and a bike from him.He was admitted to the hospital in Fatehpur for treatment. Police said a team of Chandpur police were conducting routine checks near Gureshwar Mahadev mandir Road when they noticed a two suspicious men speeding a bike.When cops signalled them to stop, they made a futile attempt to escape and moved towards a kaccha road.However, when the police team surrounded them, one of them opened fire. The cops retaliated, resulting in injury to left leg while his accomplice managed to escape from the spot.Police said Dharmendra, a resident of Jahanabad, has 12 criminal cases pending against him in Hamirpur, Lalitpur and Fatehpur.Police said that injured Dharmendra was key member of gang who used to target elderly people. They would offer seat to elderly people on pretext of lift on bikes or cars and steal their belongings including cash.
