New Delhi: Crime against women, children and the elderly in Delhi has shown a steady decline over the past three years, according to data presented in the Rajya Sabha. The data also revealed that Delhi Police is facing a shortage of over 14,000 personnel across ranks.The data shows that crimes against women fell from 13,208 cases in 2023 to 13,195 in 2024, and further to 12,458 in 2025. These include cases of rape, molestation, outraging of modesty, dowry-related offences and harassment.A similar downward trend was seen in crimes against children, with 7,769 cases registered in 2023, 7,636 in 2024 and 7,413 in 2025. Crimes against senior citizens also declined, from 1,361 cases in 2023 to 1,267 in 2024 and 1,227 in 2025.The data also revealed vacancies in the Delhi Police. Of the 96,817 sanctioned posts from constable to inspector, 13,958 are vacant. At the ACP level, 152 of 346 posts are unfilled, while 30 of 168 positions for additional DCP and above remain vacant. Overall, out of a total sanctioned strength of 97,331, 14,140 posts are vacant.
