Ranchi: CPM politburo member Tapan Sen on Sunday claimed that the Indo-US and Indo-European Union trade deals would harm the country’s interest and weaken our sovereignty.While addressing his party’s state committee meeting in Ranchi, he claimed that the deals would turn the country into an assembly place for industrial products. He said that during the process, all important components would be imported. Sen added that the tariff rates proposed in the Indo-US deal would harm Indian farmers’ interests.He said that the country-wide strike on Feb 12 against the four labour laws was historic.Sen also said that a rally would be held in New Delhi on March 24 for the restoration of MNREGA, saving the rights of workers and the trade unions, and other demands, adding that a large number of people from Jharkhand would take part in it.Party state secretary, Prakash Viplav, said that his organisation planned to contact 10 lakh people in the state for the March rally. He also said that a campaign, including ‘padyatras’, would be conducted in several districts, including Ranchi, Khunti, and Gumla.CPM also issued a press statement, saying that the state govt should have held the urban bodies election on party lines.
