New Delhi: A court Wednesday stayed for a day a non-bailable warrant (NBW) issued against SFI joint secretary Aishe Ghosh in connection with a 2021 protest outside Banga Bhawan in the city.While hearing Ghosh’s application seeking cancellation of the NBW, judicial magistrate first class Vijayshree Rathore noted that she “couldn’t appear on the last date of hearing due to unavoidable circumstances” and asked her to appear Thursday.The warrant, issued on Dec 12, 2024, and again on April 11, 2026, relates to a case in which Ghosh is accused of violating a govt order by participating in a demonstration on Feb 12, 2021. It was organised by Students’ Federation of India and Democratic Youth Federation of India outside Banga Bhawan in Chanakyapuri against police action on protesters in Kolkata opposing Citizenship Amendment Act-National Register of Citizens a day earlier.According to Delhi Police, the protest was held in a prohibited area in violation of prohibitory orders and protesters refused to disperse despite directions. An FIR was registered under sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 34 (common intention) and 447 (criminal trespass) of IPC. A chargesheet was filed in Feb 2022, and arguments on charges are yet to begin.
