Lucknow: Maharajganj police have registered an FIR against an unidentified bus driver in connection with the death of a 42-year-old Nepalese national, following a court directive issued after the victim’s family alleged police inaction.According to the complaint, Shrestha of Chitwan district in Nepal was returning from Hyderabad, where he worked, and was travelling by bus to Butwal. The incident occurred around 5 am on June 18 when the bus halted near Purandarpur flyover on Bharkhapur-Sonauli road in Maharajganj district.As passengers began to disembark, the driver allegedly accelerated suddenly and negligently while Shrestha was getting off, causing him to fall and sustain critical injuries. He was taken to Lakshmipur Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead.Police conducted an inquest, sent the body for post-mortem, and later handed it over to the family.Shrestha’s wife, Nirmala, told the court that despite repeated approaches to the police, no case was registered. She then moved the court, which directed Purandarpur police to lodge an FIR and probe the matter. Purandarpur SHO Gaurav Rai Kannaujiya said the investigation is ongoing.
