Court denies bail to Thar driver in fatal Sohna Chowk crash | Gurgaon News

Gurgaon: A local court on Friday rejected the bail plea of the 23-year-old Thar driver arrested in connection with the Sohna Chowk crash that claimed the life of 19-year-old tattoo artist Divyansh Chadha, ensuring the accused remains in judicial custody.Divyansh succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, having remained unconscious since the July 17 collision. The accused, Rohit Yadav, a resident of Sanjay Gram Colony in Sector 13, was arrested on the day of the crash.According to police, Divyansh was driving the family’s Baleno towards Rajiv Chowk around 4.40am when a Thar allegedly came at high speed from the opposite direction and crashed into the car at the Sohna Chowk intersection, a few metres from the police commissioner’s office.

The impact flung the Baleno onto the divider and overturned the SUV.Four members of the family were injured in the crash — Meenakshi Chadha (45), her son Divyansh, her daughter Lakshita Chadha (23), and a relative, Yashika Chadha (22), who was seated behind Divyansh. Divyansh sustained injuries to his head, neck and ribs.Yashika continues to undergo treatment in critical care. A relative told TOI that she regained consciousness on Thursday and was taken off the ventilator, but was put back on it after her condition deteriorated. “She will undergo surgeries as her jaw was completely broken,” the relative said.The family has alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, police said the claim is under investigation.“The Thar driver has ruined our lives. He has killed our child and now we want stringent punishment for him,” Meenakshi said.Following Divyansh’s death, police added Section 106 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita to the case, which was initially registered under sections 281, 125(a) and 324(4).
