Pune: A farm worker, Manohar Shivram Mengale (36), and his wife Geeta (34), both residents of Bhamboli in Khed taluka, died after a truck hit their motorcycle on the Chakan–Talegaon Road around 3.40pm on Saturday. The North Mhalunge police registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the truck driver, also a resident of Bhamboli, on Sunday.Senior inspector Digambar Suryavanshi of the North Mhalunge police told TOI, “Manohar was riding the motorcycle while Geeta was seated pillion. The couple was crossing the Chakan–Talegaon Road on their motorcycle at the Bhamboli village intersection. They were heading to a nearby farm for work.”“The road does not have a divider and there is an open intersection amid several industrial units. As soon as the motorcycle reached the middle of the intersection, the truck hit it. The truck was heading towards Talegaon from Chakan when it hit the motorcycle,” Suryavanshi said. The husband and wife sustained severe injuries to their heads, faces, hands and shoulders.“We suspect that the truck driver neglected the road condition at the spot and also neglected the presence of the motorcycle riders,” he said.
