Ghaziabad: Two brothers were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting and strangling their parents to death in a dispute over property in Crossings Republik.The accused allegedly slapped, kicked and tried to suffocate the couple with their bare hands before they strangled them with a towel. The attack came barely hours after the couple had organised a kirtan on the birthday of their elder son.Police said Lalit (27), who drove a car for a doctor, and Deepak (25), who recently started working at a factory after quitting a job as a driver, demanded a share in the family property before assaulting their father Gangasharan (55) and mother Vimlesh (50).The couple’s daughters and other family members told police that Gangasharan ran a dairy and lived with his wife and sons on the ground floor of their two-storey house in Veer Nagar. The first floor had been rented out. He had invested in a plot recently and was unwilling to divide the property.Lalita, the couple’s daughter, said her brothers had long been abusive toward their parents. “Whenever I spoke to my mother and father, they told me that Lalit and Deepak used to abuse and beat them day in and day out,” she said.DCP Surendra Nath Tiwari said the tenant, who heard the commotion, called police on 112. The couple were taken to hospital, but doctors declared them dead.Tiwari said the younger son, who lived separately until last week, had moved into the Veer Nagar house on Sunday evening. On Monday night, both sons confronted their parents over the division of property, and when their father refused, Deepak began beating them while Lalit stood by without intervening. Deepak slapped and kicked his parents and tried to strangle them with his hands before using a towel to smother them.Deepak, police said, also struck his father’s head repeatedly with a door, causing him to bleed from the mouth and head. Police have registered a case under BNS Section 103 (murder) based on a complaint filed by the couple’s daughter.Vimlesh’s brother Lekhraj said the couple hosted a kirtan on Monday morning, after which the brothers went out to party with friends before returning home inebriated. “It looked as if their heads had been smashed on the floor,” he said.
