Silchar: Police seized 11,695 bottles of banned cough syrup worth around Rs 1.1 crore and arrested three people in a series of operations over the past 24 hours in Assam’s Sribhumi district.Acting on a tip-off from local residents, a police team intercepted a magic van at Tukerpar near Fakirabazar on Wednesday and recovered 7,200 bottles of the banned cough syrup packed in 24 cartons. The vehicle drew suspicion due to its movement in the area, prompting residents to alert the Sribhumi Sadar police station.The driver, identified as Anwar Hussain, was arrested on the spot.Based on his interrogation, police carried out follow-up raids at Gardarashi and Kalibari Road in Sribhumi town. They recovered another 4,495 bottles of the banned cough syrup, including 2,095 bottles from the residence of Babla Das at Gardarashi and 2,400 bottles from the Kalibari Road area.Police arrested Abhijit Dhar in connection with the seizure. A third person was also arrested during the operations, taking the total number of arrests to three.Police said the seized contraband is estimated to have a market value of around Rs 1.10 crore. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the consignment and identify others involved.
