T’puram: The city corporation on Tuesday intensified action against unauthorised constructions, halting the construction of a four-storey building at Pazhavangadi.A team of corporation officials, led by town planning committee chairperson Patoor Radhakrishnan and works standing committee chairperson G S Manju, stopped the construction on Monday. The town planning squad had previously issued stop memos twice, but construction allegedly continued clandestinely.The site had earlier housed an old tiled-roof building containing five shops. After demolishing the structure, the new four-storey building was allegedly constructed without proper permits and in violation of building regulations. The location also falls within a heritage zone.Radhakrishnan said the corporation would ensure effective police intervention along with the town planning department to prevent unauthorised construction. He added that instructions would be issued to demolish buildings constructed without the required approvals.Executive engineers Sam Vidyanath T R and Biju B, assistant engineers Krishnakumar P and Greeshma A V and building inspector Suchitra S R were part of the inspection team. Fort Police also reached the site during the operation.
