Chennai: Nearly a month after the city was rocked by a triple murder at Taramani, police have approached a magistrate court seeking permission to conduct an identification parade to confirm the involvement of the three arrested suspects — Sathyendran, 33, Lalit Prasad, 45, and Vikas Kumar, 24.A guest worker-couple — Gaurav Kumar, 25, Munithakumari, 20 — and their two-year-old son Birmani Kumar were murdered on Jan 25 at the Central Polytechnic College. The victims and suspects are all from Bihar.Noting that a detailed post-mortem report is yet to be received, police said they are preparing a water-tight case before filing a chargesheet. They said the murders occurred in a room on the fourth floor of the Chemical Institute of Technology building on the campus. The room has since been sealed.Police said Gaurav was consuming alcohol with the suspects when a quarrel broke out, during which he was attacked with an iron rod. Hearing his cries, Munithakumari entered the room with her son to intervene. After killing the three, Sathyendran and another accused took Gaurav Kumar’s body on a motorcycle and dumped it in front of a two-wheeler workshop at Indira Nagar, though initially intended to dispose of the body elsewhere to avoid detection, added police.Asked why the suspects were yet to be taken into custody, an officer said they had substantial documentary and forensic evidence, and that custodial interrogation could be sought later if required, under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
