Pune: An eatery owner and one of his accomplices were arrested in the early hours of Thursday after they forced a civil services aspirant (28) into an SUV barely 400m away from Perugate police chowkey around 12.30am for talking to the suspect’s female friend. Police said the suspects drove the aspirant around the city while beating him up then transferred him to another vehicle, before releasing him near Alka Talkies and trying to flee.High drama ensued as police chased the suspects’ SUVs for about 32km. They ultimately arrested eatery owner Sagar Ramesh Borade (32) and his aide Kishor Balasaheb Sawant (32) on the charge of abducting the civil services aspirant Prasad Suryavanshi. A case of abduction and assault has been registered against five people, including Borade’s female friend, who is also a civil services aspirant and close to Suryavanshi.Suryavanshi hails from Baramati and is currently staying in a hostel near Perugate.Deputy commissioner of police (Zone I) Krushikesh Rawale on Thursday afternoon said, “Borade hails from Walchandnagar and is currently staying in Pnecity, and his accomplice, Sawant of Malshiras in Solapur district, were arrested around 2.30am. We are searching for their two accomplices.”He said, “Borade runs an eatery on Laxmi Road near Alka Talkies Chowk. The woman civil services aspirant visited Borade regularly and chatted with Suryavanshi, too. Borade did not like it. He told her and Suryavanshi not to talk to each other.”The woman civil services aspirant and Suryavanshi continued talking to each other despite Borade’s warning. “The matter escalated on Wednesday evening and Borade asked her female friend to reveal Suryavanshi’s location. After she disclosed his location, Borade and three other men reached the spot in an SUV. They beat up Suryavanshi and pushed him into the vehicle,” DCP Rawale said.The suspects allegedly punched and slapped Suryavanshi inside the SUV. They first drove to Dandekar Bridge. From there, they proceeded to Wadgaon Bridge on Sinhagad Road and shifted Suryavanshi to another vehicle. Then they drove to Katraj Ghat section.In the meantime, one of the hostel mates of Suryavanshi called the police control room and informed the personnel about the abduction. The police studied the vehicle’s registration number and identified its owner as Borade.“Our team then called Borade on his phone, but he did not answer. We tracked the location of his cellphone and a team started chasing the SUV on motorcycles,” DCP Rawale said.The police team chased the SUV in which Suryavanshi was abducted and taken to the Sinhagad Road area, a distance of about 16km. The personnel chased the other SUV also up to Alka Talkies Chowk, a distance of about another 16km. The police team on motorcycles again trailed the SUV as it started from Alka Talkies Chowk towards Swargate and finally intercepted it after a 1.5km chase. Borade and Sawant were subsequently detained.
