Chandigarh: Chandigarh police have arrested Mohammad Shaheen from Haridwar in Uttarakhand for allegedly supplying the country-made pistol used by Arman Singh to kill his father, head constable Nitin Singh, at their Sector 22 home early Friday.On Tuesday, Arman and Shaheen were produced before a local court, where police sought their further custody for questioning. After hearing the prosecution, the court remanded both accused in police custody for four days.Police told the court that the name of another suspect, Sahil, had emerged during the investigation and he was believed to be hiding in Meerut. A police team has been deployed to trace and arrest him.According to police, Arman disclosed during his initial remand that he had allegedly procured the firearm from Shaheen in Haridwar. A police team subsequently took Arman to Haridwar, where he allegedly identified Shaheen as the person who had supplied him the weapon.Police said their investigation indicated that Arman wanted to marry a woman from Zirakpur. His cousin Dinesh told police that Nitin had arranged Arman’s engagement with the woman on Sunday. Police said Arman had been living with her and that she was two months pregnant.Investigators said Arman had asked Nitin on Wednesday night to arrange the marriage at the earliest, but Nitin allegedly told him to wait until he turned 21. During the argument, Arman also allegedly sought Rs 10 lakh from his father to start a second-hand car business. Nitin refused, following which the argument escalated.According to the FIR, Monika Rani, Arman’s mother, intervened and pacified the two. She later went to sleep in another room.Around 7am on Friday, Monika went to wake them up but found the room locked from inside. After she repeatedly asked Arman to open the door, he eventually did so and allegedly caught her by the throat.According to her statement to police, Arman told her that she was creating an obstacle to his marriage and allegedly said that he had killed his father and would kill her too. Monika managed to escape to the terrace and raised an alarm.Neighbours broke open the outer door and entered the house, where they found Nitin lying dead on his bed with blood around him. They, along with Monika, overpowered Arman and handed him over to Sector 17 police.Police recovered a country-made pistol from the house and, after recording Monika’s statement and verifying the circumstances, registered a murder case against Arman and arrested him.Investigators said Arman had allegedly set an alarm for 4am on his phone before the killing. Nitin was asleep on the bed when Arman allegedly shot him in the head, killing him on the spot.Police said Arman initially gave different versions of the incident. Investigators found contradictions in his statements and questioned him further, following which he allegedly admitted to killing his father.Nitin, 45, was posted in the accounts branch at Chandigarh Police Headquarters in Sector 9, while his wife Monika, an ASI, is posted with the MOB branch of Chandigarh police. Arman is the couple’s only child.
