Varanasi: Ghazipur police lodged separate FIRs against X handles of Samajwadi Party and Congress for certain posts over the death of a woman in Karanda area of Ghazipur district, terming them objectionable, inflammatory and misleading.Providing details of the fresh action, Ghazipur’s ASP (City) Rakesh Kumar Mishra on Monday said that Karanda police registered cases against media cells of Congress and Samajwadi Party for spreading misinformation on social media platform X over the Katariya village incident in which the main accused, Hariom Pandey, was already arrested.Karanda police registered cases and initiated action against handles including Congress@INDIndia and Samajwadi Party Media Cell (@mediacellsp) on social media platform X after detecting baseless, misleading and false comments and spreading rumours regarding the Katariya village incident.On Apr 15, the woman’s sandals, mobile phone and gamchha were found near Jamania Dharammarpur bridge on the river when police engaged divers and retrieved her body. After the post-mortem examination report was received, her father lodged a murder case against two, including Hariom Pandey, who was arrested. SP functionaries’ bid to visit the woman’s home on Apr 22 led to a violent clash, after which police lodged an FIR against 246, including two party MLAs. Thereafter, the SP chief gave a call to reach this village on Apr 29.Considering these developments, the Ghazipur administration promulgated prohibitory orders under section 163 BNSS to avoid gathering and maintain law and order.To meet the family in Katariya village, a delegation of Congress functionaries from Varanasi, including district unit president Rajeshwar Singh Patel and city chief Raghvendra Mishra, tried to leave Varanasi for Ghazipur. However, police foiled their bid in Badagaon area and took them to the local police station.Chaubey strongly condemned police action by terming it a bid of crushing democratic rights. Congress will struggle from the streets to the legislature to get justice for the woman’s family, he added.
