Prayagraj: Ahead of Holi, police are maintaining a strict vigil on spurious liquor-making hubs in trans-Ganga and Yamuna pockets of the district.With joint teams of the police and excise department, strategies were chalked out, and regular raids are being conducted at hotspots of the illicit liquor trade. On Friday, a joint team of Jal Police, Ghurpur Police and the excise department carried out raids at Baswar, Palpur, Beekar, Deoria, Mohni Ka Purwa and Kanjasa and destroyed 70 quintals of lahan and mahua, along with liquor manufacturing apparatus. A senior cop said: “All identified hotspots are under the scanner, and joint teams are carrying out raids. Activities of people with previous liquor manufacturing and selling backgrounds are also under surveillance.” The Prayagraj police are focusing on 22 villages across the Yamuna and Ganga rivers, notorious for illicit liquor manufacturing and supply. tnn
