Ahmedabad: Sanand police in Ahmedabad district raided a birthday party at a private golf club in Nani Devti village late Sunday night and nabbed 39 people — including 13 men and 26 women — for consuming liquor without a permit.The party, allegedly organised by a city-based builder inside the clubhouse of the upscale Glade One Golf Scheme, was underway when police teams arrived and found alcohol being served in violation of the Gujarat Prohibition Act.The action was taken under a statewide directive issued by senior police officials to curb liquor and gambling-related offences. Acting on a specific tip-off, a team led by the deputy superintendent of police, Sanand division, reached the venue along with officers and staff from the Sanand, Aslali, Changodar, and Bopal police stations, as well as the divisional office.Loud music was reportedly heard from the banquet hall of the clubhouse, where the party was in progress, police said.According to police, liquor bottles were found placed on tables along with glasses, soft drinks, and snacks. Police seized five sealed liquor bottles of various brands, eight half-consumed bottles, 20 empty liquor bottles, and 52 drinking glasses from the scene.Seven hookahs fitted with plastic pipes, 10 cigarette packets, and a high-end mobile phone worth Rs 70,000 were also recovered during the search. The total value of the seized items was estimated at Rs 90,520.During questioning, the host told police that the liquor was brought in by a friend from another state. All detained were tested using a breath analyser, which confirmed alcohol consumption, said police officials.None of the individuals, including the women, had a valid permit to consume or possess alcohol. Police detained the 13 men and took them to the Sanand police station for legal action.The 26 women were issued notices as part of the procedure. An offence was registered under the Gujarat Prohibition Act against all 39 individuals. The investigation is ongoing to trace the supply chain and transportation of liquor into Gujarat.
