Jaipur: Rajasthan Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) has arrested a 36-year-old man from Haryana for his alleged role in an inter-state dummy candidate racket linked to the Rajasthan Public Service Commission’s Assistant Engineer (Civil) exam.Additional Director General of Police (SOG) Vishal Bansal said the exam was held on May 21, 2023. Scrutiny of records showed that a dummy candidate had appeared in place of the original candidate, identified as Indraj Singh. Investigators found that Singh allegedly tampered with the admit card by affixing another person’s photograph and arranged for a dummy candidate to take the exam.A case was registered in 2024 at the SOG police station under various sections of the IPC and the Rajasthan Public Examination (Measures for Prevention of Unfair Means in Recruitment) Act, 2022.Police said the original candidate, Indraj Singh, and his associates, Parmeshwar Lal and Salman Khan, were arrested earlier and a chargesheet has been filed in court. The dummy candidate, Gurdeep Das, a resident of Haryana’s Hisar district, was arrested on Feb 27 and sent to judicial custody.Upon interrogation, another accused, Ajit Kumar, 36, also from Hisar, was identified and arrested on March 8, officials said. Investigators said Gurdeep Das allegedly carried a smart device into the exam center, photographed the question paper and sent the images to Kumar outside the centre.Kumar then allegedly got the questions solved using internet sources and other people, and sent the answers back to the dummy candidate during the exam.Police said the accused used smartwatches and Bluetooth devices to cheat in several competitive exams conducted in different states. The SOG said Kumar and his associates took part in multiple recruitment exams held in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Jharkhand, Tripura, New Delhi and Karnataka.
