Rourkela: Town police in Sundargarh district on Wednesday arrested two persons and detained a juvenile in connection with a series of alleged thefts from shops in Rourkela. Stolen materials were recovered from their possession.The breakthrough came after Biranchi Narayan Mohapatra lodged a complaint on Aug 4, alleging that unidentified miscreants had broken through the asbestos roof of his photocopy and communication shop located opposite Town police station and stolen goods during Monday night. He had earlier reported a similar theft at his grocery-cum-communication shop on July 22.Following registration of a case, police launched an investigation and, acting on a tip-off, apprehended three suspects. The arrested duo were identified as Kartika Tigga alias Chintu (20) and Radheshyam Patra alias Dev (20), both residents of Mundapada under Town police station limits. A 17-year-old juvenile was also detained. TOI is withholding the identity of the juvenile in accordance with legal provisions.During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to their involvement in multiple burglaries, including thefts at Govt UP School, Rangadhipa, and a nearby mobile phone shop, police said. Another suspect allegedly involved in the July 22 theft remains absconding. Efforts are on to trace and arrest him.Stolen items recovered from the accused include chocolates, cigarettes and other articles. Police claimed the accused were involved in several criminal cases registered at Town police station. Further investigation is underway.
