Chennai: A crime inspector attached to the Tiruvottiyur police station has been suspended for failing to act on repeated complaints alleging that liquor was being sold illegally at the bar attached to a Tasmac outlet at Tiruvottiyur.Sources said a departmental inquiry revealed that the Tiruvottiyur law and order inspector was on leave for the past few weeks, and crime inspector Mohandas had additionally been handling law and order responsibilities during that period. Greater Chennai commissioner Abin Dinesh Modak suspended Mohandas for failing to prevent the illegal liquor sales.Sources said the action against the Tasmac bar followed an internal inquiry conducted after a video showed the illegal sales on May 13. Police raided the premises, registered a case under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act and arrested the bar owner, Ganesan alias Kurinji Ganesan, 61. He was produced before a court and later released on bail. Police also seized eight 180ml govt liquor bottles worth 1,120 and 200 in cash from the spot. TNN
