Mohali: A senior constable posted at Mataur police station was allegedly kidnapped, brutally assaulted and later abandoned near a dhaba on the Landran-Banur road after he intervened to stop a group of youths from beating a man in Sector-79, Mohali.The victim, Sandeep Kumar, a resident of Jhangaria village in Rupnagar district, stated in his complaint that the incident occurred around midnight on June 21 when he had gone to a Punjab Store in Sector-79 along with a relative after completing his duty.According to the complaint, Sandeep noticed a group of youths, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, assaulting a man. When he intervened and asked them to stop, the accused allegedly began arguing with him, hurled abuses and then attacked him.Sandeep alleged that the attackers forcibly dragged him into a vehicle and drove towards Landran while continuing to beat him. During the incident, his wallet containing cash, a government identity card and other important documents was allegedly snatched.The complainant further stated that the accused later dumped him near Pradhan Dhaba on the Landran-Banur road and fled from the spot. Before leaving, they allegedly threatened him with dire consequences, including death threats.Despite his injuries, Sandeep managed to contact his acquaintances, who reached the spot and helped him.Based on his complaint, the Sohana police have registered a case against Sumit, Tiwana, Harman, Harsh, Sahil and 10 to 15 unidentified persons. Police have initiated an investigation and are working to identify and apprehend all those involved in the incident.Police officials said further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
