Cuttack: Odisha vigilance on Tuesday arrested the former secretary of Anandpur Service Cooperative Society (SCS) in Cuttack district for allegedly misappropriating Rs 21.28 lakh collected from loan borrowers.The accused, Sarat Kumar Nayak, was arrested for his role in the alleged financial irregularities committed in the 2021- 22 financial year. He was produced before the special judge, vigilance, Cuttack, on Tuesday.According to the vigilance department, Nayak collected loan repayment amounts directly from borrowers Primary Agricultural Credit Society (PACS) Banki. While he allegedly entered the actual amounts collected in the daily transaction ledger, he manipulated the official accounting registers by deliberately showing lower collection figures.“During investigation, it was found that the accused systematically understated the loan repayment collections in the official records and siphoned off the difference amount for his personal gain. The misappropriation caused a loss of Rs 21,28,058 to Banki and the govt exchequer,” said a senior vigilance officer.“The alleged manipulation involved fabrication of records and falsification of accounts to conceal the misappropriation,” the officer added.A case was registered at Cuttack vigilance police station on Aug 10 under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is underway.
