Pune: A container truck heading towards Mumbai overturned in the Khandala section of the Pune-Mumbai Expressway on Thursday morning, disrupting traffic for nearly two hours. The accident occurred around 9am, leaving only a single lane available for Mumbai-bound vehicles. Personnel from the highway safety patrol (HSP) arrived at the scene within minutes to manage the situation and safely divert traffic.According to HSP officials, traffic volume on the expressway was lower than usual on Thursday. This allowed cars and SUVs to navigate through the single open lane with relative ease. However, to prevent a total standstill, heavy vehicles, including trucks and trailers, were diverted through the “missing link” route. The accident did not affect traffic moving in the opposite direction towards Pune.“We pressed a heavy-duty crane into service to remove the overturned truck from the carriageway,” said Shivaji Pawar, superintendent of police, highway safety patrol, Pune. “Normal vehicular movement was restored by 11:00 am.”
