Jaipur: Chairman of district consumer commission No. 2, Jaipur, Gyarsi Lal Meena, sought security after allegedly receiving repeated threats over the phone while hearing cases against film actors Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and others in matters related to misleading advertisements.In a letter addressed to the registrar of the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and the Jaipur police commissioner Wednesday Meena stated that he was presiding over several cases under the Consumer Protection Act, including complaints related to advertisements of Rajshree Pan Masala and Vimal Pan Masala. He passed orders against certain film actors in connection with these cases. According to the letter, following these proceedings and orders, he received repeated telephonic threats from a person identified as Narendra Kesar and other unidentified individuals. “Attempts are being made to exert direct and indirect pressure on him in connection with the cases under consideration,” he said in the letter. Meena expressed apprehension that such actions could “obstruct the judicial process” and “pose a threat to his life and property”. He requested that adequate security arrangements be made at the Consumer Commission premises as well as at his residence. The letter also referred to the issue of misleading advertisements being raised in Parliament on Dec 5 by MPs Hanuman Beniwal and Rajkumar Roat. It stated that efforts were underway at the national level to bring in stricter laws to curb misleading advertisements, and that the matter had wider public importance. The chairman stated that, in the event of any harm to his life or property, the responsibility would lie with the state govt.
