Pune: A conman allegedly distracted a 79-year-old man and fled with his gold chain and ring worth Rs1.5 lakh in Chakan around 10am on Sunday. He lodged a complaint with the Chakan North police. The elderly man was out on a walk near his son’s house in Sumbarenagar, Chakan, when the accused approached him and asked if he had a room available to let, a Chakan North police officer said. The former responded that his son handled such matters, prompting the accused to say that his father had already seen the room and that they wanted it till their house construction was over.“During the conversation, the accused told the elderly man that he wanted to get a gold ring similar to the one he was wearing and requested the victim to accompany him and show it to his father,” the officer said. The accused took him to a secluded spot on his motorcycle and asked him to remove his gold chain and ring and show both to his (the accused’s) father on a video call. “When the complainant removed the chain and ring, the accused sped away with the jewellery,” the officer said.
