Chikkamagaluru: The Chikkamagaluru District Congress Committee (DCC) is set to get a new president in Aug and the process for selection is in full swing. A team led by All India Congress Committee (AICC) observer Biswaranjan Mohanty is touring all the assembly constituencies in the district. The district has five assembly segments: Chikkamagaluru, Sringeri, Mudigere, Kadur and Tarikere.As part of the selection process, leaders and office bearers from every assembly constituency and blocks in the district are gathering opinion.Mohanty said that Congress has decided to strengthen the organisation. As part of the ‘Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan’ launched in Karnataka, a one-week tour will be conducted across all assembly segments and blocks in Chikkamagaluru district to meet party office bearers. “During this visit, discussions will be held regarding the appointment of the next DCC president. The search is for a democratic, transparent and people-friendly leader,” he said.“In line with national leader Rahul Gandhi’s appeal, the Congress is being strengthened from the grassroots based on party principles and ideology. The ‘Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan’ will help give new energy to the party. The decision was taken at the party plenary session in Ahmedabad,” Mohanty said.He said aspirants for the DCC president post must submit applications mentioning the work they have done for the party. The Abhiyan’s report in the district will be submitted to senior functionaries in the first week of Aug, after which the high command will take a final decision, he said.Announcing the tour plan, DCC president KP Amshumanth said that suitable candidates will be declared as the president.
