Addressing the media on the issue outside Parliament Thursday, AICC general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal said: “We are ready to face the privilege motion. The last time they tried to cancel his (Gandhi’s) membership, the people gave him more votes than Prime Minister Modi got. We will continue to tell the truth in Parliament.”
Venugopal objected to the way some parts of Gandhi’s speech were officially expunged from the Lok Sabha records. “We have been continuously complaining that we are not getting justice from the chair. The government is pressuring the chair not to give the opposition a chance to speak. I got to know what Rahul Gandhi said was expunged,” he said.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra denied parliamentary affairs minister Kiran Rijiju’s charge that she and some female MPs of the Congress had misbehaved with the speaker last week when they met him.
“We did not abuse anyone. One or two MPs were agitated, and they expresssed it. He (Rijiju) also said that I was encouraging them, which is a lie. I was sitting quietly. In the end, I said a few things peacefully,” she said.
