Ghaziabad: Congress MP from Saharanpur Imran Masood on Monday surrendered before a special CBI court in connection with a case involving fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 40 lakh. He was allowed interim bail till the next date of hearing on July 25. The case relates to the withdrawal of Rs 40 lakh from the account of Saharanpur Nagar Palika Parishad in 2007, when Masood was the chairman. On July 12, special CBI court had issued a non-bailable warrant for the arrest of the MP after he failed to appear despite repeated summons and warrants.Executive officer of the civic body Yashwant Singh had lodged an FIR against Masood and his aide, accusing them of withdrawing money from the municipal council’s bank account. Sources said the matter was later registered under Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Special CBI judge Arwind Misra had issued the NBW directing police to arrest the accused by July 18. On Monday, the court sought an explanation from police for failure to arrest the MP.
