Kolkata: Congress candidate for Nandigram bypoll Milan Pradhan was arrested on Friday for his alleged involvement in 2007 anti-land acquisition movement, party leader Subhankar Sarkar said. Reacting sharply to the development, AICC general secretary (org) KC Venugopal said on X, “Democracy is on a ventilator in BJP’s Bengal. This is BJP’s latest effort to ensure Opposition-Mukt Bharat, successfully converting our great constitutional democracy into a Banana Republic.”
Saying the timing of arrest raises “serious questions”, Mamata Banerjee said, “BJP’s politics of vendetta and atrocities show a clear pattern.
