Thiruvananthapuram: CPI(M) state secretary M V Govindan on Wednesday accused the Congress of fully supporting the BJP’s “saffronisation agenda” and alleged that Chief Minister V D Satheesan was running Keralam like an RSS government.

Govindan made the remarks while responding to media questions on the Congress-led UDF government’s stand on the recent summoning of the state police chief to the Lok Bhavan by Governor Rajendra Arlekar and also on the recent share transfer involving the Vizhinjam International Port.

“Congress’ present stand shows that it is extending full support to the BJP’s saffronisation agenda,” Govindan alleged, referring to appointments of pro-right persons as vice-chancellors and syndicate members and BJP workers to university senates.

He alleged that Satheesan had become a Chief Minister acting according to the directions of the RSS.

Govindan also criticised Satheesan for not strongly opposing the Governor’s recent summoning of the state police chief.
“The Chief Minister has not uttered a word against the Governor directly for summoning the state police chief and giving him directions,” he alleged.During the previous LDF government, the Chief Minister had strongly opposed such attempts by the Governor, and officials were not even sent to the Lok Bhavan on many occasions, Govindan claimed, alleging that the Congress-led government was now yielding to such moves.

His remarks came a day after Satheesan said the Governor’s action of summoning the state police chief without the knowledge of the chief minister or government was improper and that the government would convey its strong displeasure to the Lok Bhavan.

On the Vizhinjam port share transfer, Govindan alleged that there was a contradiction in the Chief Minister’s statements.

The Left veteran claimed that Satheesan’s statement that his government expressed strong displeasure to the Adani group over the share transfer was “false”.

He said there was no evidence of the government conveying any such displeasure, while there was clear documentary evidence to prove that no such displeasure had been communicated.

“There is no evidence that the government has conveyed displeasure. But there is an RTI document which says that it did not convey any displeasure,” Govindan added.

Chief Minister’s office had said last month that the CM expressed his administration’s displeasure to Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) over its announcement of transferring 49 per cent shares in Vizhinjam port to Switzerland-based shipping company MSC without informing the government.
