Congress releases first list of candidates, the first list has announced 42 candidates, Assam Pradesh Congress committee (APCC) president and Lok Sabha MP, Gaurav Gogoi will make an assembly debut in the Jorhat seat.

Satyabrat Kalita who left Asom Gana Parishad is fielded from Kamalpur seat. This is the first time that assembly polls are fought in redrawn assembly segments as a delimitation exercise was carried out in 2023.

Nandita Das will contest from the Hajo-Sualkuchi seat. She has been MLA twice in 2016 and 2021 from Boko seat. In the scheduled tribe reserved seat of Goalpara West Congress has fielded Markline Marak.

While son of former minister Bhumidhar Barman, Diganta Barman will contest Barkhetri seat. Son of former minister and Nagaon MP Pradyut Bordoloi, Prateek Bordoloi will contest from Margherita.

Pranjal Ghatowar son of former Union minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar will fight from Chabua-Lahowal seat. From the Dispur assembly seat Mira Borthakur Goswami will contest the polls. Goswami who joined Congress in 2019 quitting BJP following the protest Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) unsuccessfully contested Guwahati Lok Sabha seat in 2024.

Former Deputy Speaker Pranati Phukan will fight from Naharkatia seat. Leader of opposition in assembly Debabrata Saikia is fielded again from Nazira. He has represented the constituency since 2011. He is the son of former chief minister Hiteswar Saikia.
Former minister Ajit Singh will contest from Udharbond seat. Former BJP leader who quitted the party, Ashok Kumar Sharma is fielded from Nalbari. In Tihu Congress has given a new face and fielded Ratul Patuwary.Tanzil Hussain, son of former minister and Lok Sabha MP, Rockybul Hussain is fielded from Samaguri. In the bye election in 2024 Tanzil was defeated by BJP candidate Diplu Ranjan Sarma.

Former minister Ripun Bora has shifted to Barchalla, the party has fielded former MLA Durga Bhumij from Doom Dooma seat. Bhumji lost to Rupesh Gowala of BJP in the 2021 assembly polls. Sitting MLA from Rupahihat Nurul Huda is given a ticket by the party.

Assam has 126 assembly seats and is going to polls in March-April this year.
