Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Congress will observe a ‘Save Democracy Week’ from Oct 2 to 8 and organise ‘Save Vote, Save Country’ marches across all districts, the party said on Thursday.The programme will be held as part of INDIA bloc’s joint initiative and focus on Congress’ demands concerning Election Commission and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.The party has demanded Kumar’s removal and legal action against him.Congress said joint meetings with INDIA bloc partners would be held at district level on the first day, followed by block and ward-level preparatory meetings.District-level marches would be taken out to statues of BR Ambedkar or Mahatma Gandhi, or to district magistrate offices.The party said participants would sing the national anthem and read Article 326 of the Constitution, which provides for adult suffrage.The programme would conclude with the burning of an effigy of Gyanesh Kumar.
