Jaipur: Ahead of the monsoon session of the Rajasthan Assembly beginning on Aug 20, the Congress Friday said it would corner the BJP govt over issues concerning youth, maternal deaths, healthcare and other matters of public interest, while holding it accountable for its performance.Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully said the party would raise every major issue affecting people and seek answers from the govt during the session.Outlining the Opposition’s priorities, Jully said the Congress would raise the issue of maternal deaths, delays in recruitment affecting youth, problems faced by unemployed candidates and students, and concerns of sanitation workers. He said the party would also focus on shortcomings in the healthcare system, deteriorating road conditions, inadequate sanitation and drain cleaning, tree plantation, stalled development works and the failure of welfare schemes to reach intended beneficiaries.Jully alleged that the BJP govt was reluctant to run the House effectively and convened the session only because of the constitutional requirement that the Assembly meet within six months.He said legislative proceedings help resolve public grievances and claimed that the previous session was abruptly adjourned despite scope for extending it. He alleged that the govt had cited a lack of business, resulting in important legislation, including a proposed law on Khejri conservation, not being introduced.Jully said the Assembly should serve as a platform for meaningful debate rather than political posturing.
