Guwahati: Congress on Thursday released its third list of 22 candidates for assembly elections, taking the party’s total declared seats to 87 so far.Along with its four alliance partners — AJP, APHLC, CPM and CPI-ML (Liberation) — the opposition bloc announced candidates for 102 seats by Thursday.
The party has still not named candidates for Sivasagar, Dhing and Dalgaon — three seats which remain a bone of contention between Congress and Raijor Dal.The third list includes three Assam Pradesh Congress Committee working presidents — Pradip Sarkar from Abhayapuri, Jakir Hussain Sikdar from Paka Betbari and Roselina Tirkey from Khumtai — as well as Assam Pradesh Youth Congress president Zubair Anam Mazumder from Algapur Katlichera.Congress has renominated sitting Laharighat MLA Asif Mohamad Nazar from the Muslim-majority Laharighat seat in central Assam. Nazar was at the centre of the dispute that led former Congress leader Pradyut Bordoloi to leave the party and join BJP.Another sitting MLA, Abdur Rahim Ahmed of Barpeta, has been fielded from the Muslim-majority Chenga seat in lower Assam.Former Congress MLAs Ghana Buragohain and Durlav Chamua have been nominated from Lakhimpur and Nagaon Batadraba respectively.
